Tuesday Brewsday

Our very first stop in Dublin was a local bar that was right down the street from our hotel. It was called Molloys. This was not the average looking bar in Dublin; it was very beautiful on the outside (as you can see from the picture) and a little shabby on the inside.  This particular bar had the cheapest pint of Guinness that Dublin offers.  When we walked in all eyes were on us, you could definitely tell that we were from American. We sat down and soon made friends with the bartender, Regina, and a few of the locals who were regulars at Molloys. They loved us! They would not stop talking to us and telling us stories about their lives, it was amazing. It was as if they had never talked to Americans before.  We soon learned that one of the men we were talking to was a father to a famous Irish singer. His son was Ronan Keating. At the time we had no idea who Ronan Keating was, we later Googled him and recognized some of his music.  Before we left Dublin we went back to say goodbye to our new friends and they were so smitten that we remembered them, it is something I will never forget.

#irishbizparty

#IrishBizParty is trending on Twitter all over Ireland. It is a hashtag that local business use to communicate with other local businesses while promoting their own. They can express ideas and offer advice to people around them. Being a business owner can be frustrating at times and would be beneficial to have support from other entrepreneurs who are going through the same thing. Small businesses often have a hard time promoting themselves, so why not Tweet about it and get your business name trending? The goal of this is to tweet, explaining how you have promoted your business and to give ideas to other local business. In return they will re tweet you to get your name and their name out to the public.  This is a free and easy method to promote your business. #IrishBizParty is live and interactive on Wednesdays between 9-11 pm.

We, as community members need to work together and support our local businesses. We can help! Shop at local and family owned places instead of big corporate businesses.

Tuesday Brewsday

Starting on Tuesdays (besides this week that will be posted on Wednesday) I am going to talk about the different bars I went to during my stay in Ireland. Ireland is well known for their Guinness and Jameson Irish Whiskey and the bars are rarely closed. Most bars open at 8 AM and don't close till the wee hours of the morning. First, I am going to start with my favorite and most popular bar in Dublin; The Temple Bar. When you first walk in its kind of dark but your eyes adjust quickly.  It is definitely a bar for younger people to hangout at, there is a young feeling in the air. There are always a ton of people ready to drink, eat, and listen to some good music.

Temple bar always has entertainment, sometimes more than one band or singer in the bar at a time. You can go on their website and see what live entertainment is playing at what times to make sure you don't miss out on a great time. Temple has a great menu and their food is awesome. If you ever have the chance to go, I would highly recommend Chicken caesar sandwich on sourdough bread. Temple has a store that you can buy all kinds of Temple Bar merchandise at, everything from clothing to shot glasses to Irish jewelry. This bar really is one of the coolest spots in Dublin.

Be sure to come back next Tuesday and check out some more Irish pubs, also check out this Ireland's Hidden Gems blog for some top 10 attractions in Dublin!

Picture Of The Day

If you ever have the chance to travel outside of the U.S., take it. Traveling is a once and a life time opportunity, my trip to Ireland is something that I will never forget, it was an experience of a lifetime. There is so much to learn and so many different customs that we in America are not used to. Traveling widens your prospective and is an eye opening experience.  I have found there are many benefits to traveling, and if you can, it is beneficial to start while you are young and before you have started a family so you have the freedom to go whenever and wherever you desire.

I like this picture because it is encouraging people to get out there and see the world, because there is so much to experience. While I was in Ireland I got to learn so much about the culture and see how differently things are done there. The locals are super nice and are very helpful with questions; they want you to enjoy your time experiencing their wonderful city.  The first bar we went to was called, Molloys, the bartenders name was Regina and she ended up being one of the favorite people we met. Not only was she very welcoming, she told us where to go and where to avoid, and introduced us to pretty much everyone in the bar. We made quite a few friends on our first stop!

Feel free to comment and check back later for more tips and stories.

Planning Your Trip

When planning your trip you want to make sure you manage your money and time wisely to best enjoy your time in Ireland. You want to start planning and saving months in advance so you have enough time and money to get everything you want to do into your schedule. It is important to make sure you do your research to see what is going on in Dublin at the time of your stay, and make sure you pick out which attractions you want to visit once you get there

First, you should do the most important thing and book your flight and hotel. After doing some research you will find it is most often cheaper to book your flight and hotel together. United is a great airline to fly with as well as Ryanair, but look at other airlines to make sure you find the cheapest prices. If you are looking to stay in a hotel, The North Star Hotel is a great place to look into, they have cheap shuttles that take can take you to and from the airport, a great staff, and it is a reasonable price.  If you are budging and are looking for a Hostel, you are in luck! Dublin has dozens of hostels for reasonable prices. After you have booked a flight and a place to stay, you can then start looking into attractions that are nearby and different day trips you might be interested in taking. Look into the Dublin pass if you are planning on doing a lot of sight seeing. It allows you entrance in to the Guinness Storehouse, The Old Jameson Distillery, The Dublin Zoo, The James Joyce Center, and so many more. However, this does not include your transportation around the city. Look into getting a Dublin Bus Tour pass or a Leap card. The Dublin Bus Pass will take you too and from all the attractions that you can getting into with your Dublin Pass. The Leap card allows you to put money on it so you can hop on and off all Dublin bus services, all Luas Services, and Commuter Rail services that go  through Dublin. If you are looking into taking any day trips, the Paddy Wagon offers different tours all around Ireland. If you are looking to book your day trip(s) ahead of time you can visit the Paddy Wagon Tours website and set up your trip there, or wait until you get to Dublin and find the Paddy Wagon Store on Abbey Street. The Paddy Wagon also is a hostel if you are looking for a cheap place to stay.
